Our plan for the Point sparring athlete is to both provide better access to national level events, and to attract more point sparring athletes to the AAU Taekwondo program. Key points from our strategic plan as they relate to Point sparring are listed below:
- Better scheduling of national level events to make it easier for point style sparring athletes to attend national championships.
- Providing national level point sparring tournaments to be held in closer proximity to our existing point sparring schools.
- Athlete ‘points and seeding’ program:
- A new seeding program, based on points, which will promote competition at the local level, and provide a more fair competitive landscape at the national level.
- Athlete of the year program:
- Athletes enrolled in the seeding program will be eligible for athlete of the year awards, scholarships, and other recognition (one male, one female).
- This program will be open to all athletes: youth, adult, colored belts, & black belts.
- Coach of the year program:
- Coaches, whose athletes are enrolled in the seeding program, will also accumulate points based on activity and performance.
- The Coach of the year program will motivate coaches to both bring more athletes to events, as well as participate in many licensed events rather than just a single qualifying event before nationals.
