Our plan for the Olympic Style sparring athlete is to provide each athlete and coach an effective platform to maximize their potential as they gain experience and life lessons through AAU Taekwondo. Key points from our strategic plan as they relate to Olympic Style sparring are listed below:
- Working with our NGB to allow athletes as many competition opportunities as they desire.
- Having already had several conference calls with the leadership of USA Taekwondo, the communication lines are open. The organizations are prepared to work together rather than against one another in order to provide the most opportunities for our athletes.
- Creating a “points and seeding program” for athletes
- This new seeding program, based on points, will promote competition at the local level, and provide a more fair competitive landscape at the national championships by ensuring athletes with the highest point totals within a division are separated in the brackets.
- Move Team Trials to AAU JO Games
- Ensures our team is selected within the summer months
- No interruption of school schedule for the kids
- Travel opportunities within the same calendar year as team is selected
- AAU JO Games rotates through different parts of the country, alleviating travel issues to south Florida during hurricane season
- Athlete of the year program
- Athletes enrolled in the seeding program will be eligible for athlete of the year awards, scholarships, and other recognitions (one male, one female).
- This program will be open to all athletes: youth, adult, colored belts, & black belts.
- Coach of the year program
- Coaches, whose athletes are enrolled in the seeding program, will also accumulate points based on activity and performance.
- The Coach of the year program will help motivate coaches to bring more athletes to events, and also to participate in many licensed events rather than just a single qualifying event before nationals.
